Sex and the City Lingerie Line Uses Bamboo

The media blitz surrounding the "Sex and the City" movie has been relentless, and until now RiverWired was one of the only sites on the Internet that hadn't mentioned it. Until now! But there is a green angle.

Cosabella is a lingerie line featured regularly throughout the HBO series, like in bedroom scenes when Carrie wore bras to honor her no-nudity clause. Just in time for the movie, Cosabella has released a "Sex & the City"-inspired line (with no overt references to the show, just the personalities of the characters, and the tags inside the undies). The line has looks named for each of the four main characters, and the comparatively modest Charlotte line uses bamboo fabric. The press release describes Charlotte's line as "more like typical sleepwear - since she seems like the most likely candidate to actually lounge at home in her pajamas."

Figures they'd give the eco line to the lamest character. But it's cool that they did include the bamboo fabric.

Also in the same press release--HBO's VP of licensing and retail mentions efforts to be eco-friendly with their other S&TC merch.

Organic Lingerie and Wedding Dress Ideas

The problem with most of the lines of organic lingerie, I've found, is that often they look beautiful and delicate and all that sexy lingerie jazz, but the bras look to be useless for any kind of support purpose. If you're going to wear one of those flimsy confections (that are not cheap), then why even wear a bra? The Oko Box makes the first organic bra that actually looks practical to me: their organic underwire bra. True--it's not very sexy, but the line has cuter little undies (the ones pictured here made from vintage tree-print fabric), or go to Stella McCartney's organic, sustainable line for the really frilly, lacy fancy pants.

The Oko Box also maintains a rather girly, quite readable blog that recently did a thorough rundown of organic/ eco-friendly wedding gown ideas. Curses to The Oko Box blog for turning me on to yet another droolsome vintage gown online boutique to comb through when I should be working: TheFrock. Le sigh.

Other right-on topics they've covered include organic plus-size clothing, DIY herbal remedies and sex health for teens. This little company also regularly donates to the National Wildlife Federation and they use "100% real people models." They are awesome.

It’s Green: The g=9.8 line is made from a compound called LENPUR- a sustainable textile made from white pine tree clippings processed with enzymes into fiber. The clippings are managed sustainably, and harvesting coincides with normal tree pruning, so no trees are destroyed in the making of g=9.8 products.

The Day After: Thoughts on Fair Trade Coffee, Flowers, Organic Lingerie?

If a look is worth a thousand words, then the kiss from Architect Dave was the Encyclopedia Britannica. I was rendered speechless; and that, my friends, isn’t an easy thing to do.

The next day I went shopping in a very different way. I was inspired.

First things first; coffee. I admit that I’m an addict. So I decided as one of my first steps in going more ‘green’ was to change my morning cup o’ Joe into a statement. A statement I was hoping Architect Dave would share with me on, oh say, a Sunday morning? I found Green Mountain Coffee, where all their java is not only organic and fair trade, but they deliver! I love that.

I was also going to need some sassy new lingerie. I don’t even know if it’s possible to get sexy eco-friendly lingerie? Turns out the internet is a marvelous thing, in case you haven’t heard. I found this website, The Natural Store. It’s in the UK, but they deliver anywhere and it has the largest selection of “Eco Boudoir” goodies that I’ve seen anywhere. These are not your Granny’s panties. They’re truly sexy and fun! I order the Eco Boudoir 'Cheeky French Knicker’s' and the ‘Star Top’. Tres chic.

I think that I hope I’m not getting ahead of myself when the doorbell rings. On the other side of the door was the person every girl wants to see after a great first date, her mother. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. It was not my mother, thank God. On the other side of my door, ladies and gentlemen, take a recycled note, is a flower-delivery man. He was bearing a large and colorful bouquet of Winter Anemones and Calla Lilies.

Of course they come from an organic flower shop. I thought all flowers were organic. Turns out, that’s not the case. These flowers have never seen a pesticide or chemical in their fresh cut little lives.

Yay! There’s a note attached. I rip it open with the fervor of a PETA activist at a fur coat fashion show and it says, “Thanks for a lovely evening. If you like these flowers, I want to show you something even more beautiful. How’s Sunday? Bring your hiking shoes.”

Hiking shoes? My stomach sank into my feet. Feet that, mind you, have never seen hiking shoes. A hike to me is from my house to Barney’s Wearhouse Sale. In a car. With the air on.

Dave calls and I confirm our ‘hiking’ date for Sunday. While I am looking forward to seeing him, I have no idea how I’ll be on a hike. I might cry. If I do I hope he has recycled tissues.
