Vegan Strip Club Casa Diablo es Muerto
Not Much Sympathy for the Devil
It's only been about a month since I first read about the vegan strip club Casa Diablo in (where else?) Portland, Oregon, and now today comes the news, via Gawker, that it's up for sale.
Here's what the ad on Craigslist says: "Own your own gentlemen's club. Beautiful interior. Good times. Email for more information. Serious buyers only."
Really? This did not go over well? Is there not much crossover between vegans and strip club attendees? Even in Portland?
Oh wait, I'm not surprised at all.
Casa Diablo's menu contained no meat, eggs or dairy (except, presumably, the eggs and potential dairy present within the meat on the stage). The concept reflected the lifestyle of owner Johnny Diablo, (which, I further presume, is not his birth name. Oh, Portland.).
The establishment was also the city's first nonsmoking club in Portland. I don't know a lot about the biz, but I have a sneaking suspicion that factor may have also contributed to its demise.
Ah well, for a small slice of 2008, Diablo put the veg in...well...never mind.
(By the way, I realize that stripping does not = love or weddings (my blogging category), and vegan does not necessarily = environmentally friendly, but sometimes you just have to share something juicy that's peripherally related.)
