Tea For One

Reality Series #13

It’s been over a week and I finally feel better after having been bitten by a nasty flu. I gotta say that the sickness sucked, but being attended to by a hot man was almost worth the pain.

He took such amazing care of me. I couldn’t believe he stuck around through all the phlegm and nastiness.

He even called his Mom, people. She said that Teas are age-old remedies for colds and flu-like symptoms, because they are soothing as well as delivering what you need to help kick them, and medicinal value.

She had a great recipe for a Chamomile-Peppermint blend that was quite tasty as well, in equal portions (apparently also quite good if vomiting is involved, as both have anti-nausea properties).

I needed whatever help I could get.

Her other favorite tea for colds contains Coltsfoot, Mullein, Hyssop, Rosehips, Mint, Anise, and Fenugreek; she told me I’d have to play around to find the right proportions for me since tastes are so individual.

Some other herbs that are good for these sorts of symptoms (Achy, phlegm-y, congestion, etc…) are Anise, Cayenne, Calendula, Chamomile, Echinacea, Elderberry, Eucalyptus, Feverfew, Ginger, Green Tea, Honeysuckle, Horehound, Lavender, Lemon, Licorice, Marjoram, Poppy, Radish, Red Clover, Red Raspberry, Rosemary, Sage, Slippery Elm Bark, St, John’s Wort, Tarragon, Thyme, Watercress, Willow and Yarrow.

Borage, Calendula, Cayenne, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Radish, and Tansy are good fever reducers.

Cayenne, Echinacea, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Garlic, Goldenseal, Hyssop, Licorice, Sage, Savory (Summer) are all particularly good for a sore throat.

I realize that it’s no wonder Dave grew up the way he did because his mother seems to be a veritable font of information.

It’s also no wonder I am who I am since all the holistic things I grew up with was,” Eat the WHOLE thing”. That’s about as far as that went.

But I’m learning now so maybe when Dave and I … what? Ok- maybe the fever made me delirious.
