If you're the type to think about where your posessions are made, who makes them, and what they're made from, registering through one of the traditional retailers probably won't work for you. But most of the below options work on similar principals: find items you want anywhere on the Internet, favorite green stores included, and put them all on one list in one place that you then share with your guests. Et voila, your great-aunt who's never heard of bamboo sheets can buy them for you.

1. Earth Friendly Wedding recently tried out the new registry site Wishpot, which is currently in beta, and gave it the thumbs up. The site includes suggestions from experts (including green brides) and other brides.

2. The Alternative Wedding Registry is run by the conscious consumerist organization New American Dream and features helpful wedding planning tips and checklists, like this one, What to ask perspective caterers when you want to go green.

From the site: "Our registry options encourage and legitimize asking for help from friends, sharing time together, reusing second-hand items, and giving environmentally sound presents as tasteful, thoughtful options."

3. The Things I Want.com enables users to manage multiple wish lists, and decide which are shared with whom, and you can add explanations and pictures with the items.

4. The World Wildlife Fund has their own registry, and gift options include a donation to the WWF. The site also includes tips for planning green weddings and eco-honeymoons.

5. Maybe all this is way too materialistic and you don't want things at all. With Just Give (the parent organziation of WWF's registry), you can choose what charities your guests can donations to. Most guests do like to give a little something, so let them.

While we're on the subject, a wedding registry for men recently made the news. Because, you know, men would never want cookware and women would never want power tools. Grunt.
